The Mekongdelta
is a huge area with two main arms of the Mekong river and uncountable
side arms and channels. I spent two days there, mostly on boat. It
is a good way to see the way of life, water markets, farming and all
sorts of small family factories.
You can see
the production of ricepaper which is needed for the famous Saigon rolls
or bricks, popcorn made from rice or terracotta. All family business.
You can also
walk through villages on islands, along a channel. The people are very
friendly and invite you to have a look into their houses. Older ones
sometimes are able to speak French, English is more known.
Intersting to stay overnight in
Can To, the biggest town in the Mekongdelta (more than two million
inhabitants) with its statue of Uncle Ho five meter high in aluminium
colour.
For Dinner I tried fried snake,
it was good! Recommended for the more adventurous traveller. |
