The Citadel and the Forbidden City in Hue

Inside the citadel is the Purple City and the Forbidden City where the Emperors lived until 1945. There are still so many magnificent buildings to be seen. It is definitely worth a visit.

The Vietcong conquered the citadel and large parts of Hue in
1968, during the Tet Offensive for 28 days until the South Vietnamese and US Army were able to retake this area. Though the US Air Force was cautious not to bombard this historical and important area too heavy, the destruction of the battle was heavy and has not been completely rebuilt to this day.
